I’ve been a BookNerd all my life, thanks largely to my Mom and her passion for reading.  I started reading at a very young age, and never stopped – much to the befuddlement of many a grade school teacher.  My earliest book memories involve losing my mind over Roald Dahl’s “Matilda” and “The Witches,” Avi’s “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle,” as well as lots and lots of “The Babysitter’s Club.” (We’re talking the first 40ish books, AND like seven Super Specials.  I was so hooked.  My favorite was the one where they all did “Peter Pan.”)

Though I’d been blogging about random things that amused me for a long while at a personal blog, I launched SuchABookNerd a couple years back to share what I was reading with the world, and to meet other readers.

My Top Eleven Favorite Reads of All Time

(Please understand how hard it was to make this list.  These are basically my Desert Island Top Eleven, but there are so many amazing books on this planet..)

  1. Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte
  2. Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley
  3. A Dirty Job, by Christopher Moore
  4. Sense & Sensibility, by Jane Austen
  5. Matilda, by Roald Dahl
  6. Dracula, by Bram Stoker
  7. Room, by Emma Donoghue
  8. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, by Barbara Kingsolver
  9. The Shining, by Stephen King
  10. Gone with the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell
  11. The Sandman series, by Neil Gaiman

Honorable Mentions: “Ahab’s Wife” by Sena Jeter Naslund, “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, “No One is Here Except All of Us” by Ramona Ausubel, “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson, “The Red Tent” by Anita Diamant, “Valley of the Dolls” by Jacqueline Susann, “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare, “Neverwhere,” and “Coraline” by Neil Gaiman.

Having escaped my homeland of Northern Michigan, I now reside in the city of Chicago where I’m married to the love of my life/an amazing man, and we’re the brand new parents of an awesome little dude.  We also a spectacular cat – Ozymandias.

In addition to reading, I’m a big fan of movies (Harold & Maude, Valley of the Dolls, Pretty in Pink, and a lot of bad 80s horror), TV (especially True Blood, Doctor Who, and A Game of Thrones) and traveling.

There is nothing in this whole world I like more than a good book, a cup of coffee, and my family and friends.  Give me that, and I’m a happy camper.

  3. So: when do Oz and Megellan get to bloggin’?
